This historic marker was established as a tribute to Christopher “Kit” Carson, the famous pioneer and explorer of the western frontier. Born on Christmas Eve in 1809, in a small log cabin in Madison County, Kit grew up to be a well-known explorer and scout. Historical information on Carson’s life is available at the Richmond Tourism Department located at 345 Lancaster Avenue.
