A Celebration of Women's History: Honoring Mary Barr Clay @ White Hall

Join us on Sunday, June 2nd for a celebration of Mary Barr Clay and the unveiling of a gorgeous historical marker to commemorate her efforts in women’s suffrage!

White Hall will be open for tours beginning at noon with the dedication address at 2pm. Light refreshments provided.

—–
The centennial of suffrage for many women in the United States is approaching in 2020. With this landmark anniversary embodied in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites (NCWHS) and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation have partnered to launch a new historic marker program which will be part of the National Votes for Women Trail (NVWT) .

The third of five markers in Kentucky will be dedicated at 2:00 pm on June 2, 2019 at White Hall State Historic Site in Richmond, KY to commemorate the legacy of Mary Barr Clay. Clay, the eldest daughter of Mary Jane Warfield and Cassius M. Clay, served as a leader in both national suffrage organizations – the National Woman Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association – and started the state’s first permanent women’s rights association in Madison County in 1879. She spoke in support of suffrage before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee in 1884.

Sallie Clay Lanham, a descendent of Mary Barr Clay will address guests. In addition to Molly Caldwell, President of the Kentucky State Parks Foundation and NCWHS President Marsha Weinstein, the dedication ceremony will feature a presentation by Dr. Melanie Goan, Associate Professor of History at the University of Kentucky and Coordinator of the Kentucky Woman Suffrage Project.

U S 25 Yard Sale @ US 25 Yard Sale | Lancaster | Minnesota | United States

We are at it again….This is our 7th Annual U.S. 25 Yard Sale. Dates are June 7th, 8th, & 9th, 2018. Judy Wigginton from Williamstown, Ky, and Randy Coffey from Berea, Ky. have been working hand in hand to make this the most profitable and exciting Yard Sale ever. The ‘Frugal Living’ Website, which rates ‘The Longest Yard Sales in the US,’ has listed this year’s event as the nation’s 10th longest and we just finished our 6th. year. Currently, almost every city, village, and town along the route in Kentucky, and Tennessee are participating in the 325+ mile route. The idea for the U.S. 25 Yard Sale originated in Williamstown, KY. The City of Williamstown, KY and its Mayor Rick Skinner have endorsed the event every year. Cities all along the route have jumped on the bandwagon as well. US 25 also known as Dixie Highway runs almost parallel to I-75 from Michigan to Knoxville Tennessee. There are some areas where it is known as Dixie Highway instead of U. S. 25.
